Wood Chipping

About wood chipping

With these guidelines, we ensure smooth, efficient, and safe chipping at every location.

Safety fundamentals

Several meters of safety distance must be maintained in the machine's operating area, as branches, wood pieces, stones, or other materials in the pile can fly from the chipper. Access to the chipping area by pets and children must be prevented.

Equipment and capacity

We use a blade-type Heizohack 10-500K drum chipper on a Volvo truck chassis. Maximum diameter for wood is 65 cm. Screen size is always selected according to your heating boiler's needs.

Dust and ventilation

Dry wood chips may produce significant dust. Please ensure your storage has adequate exhaust air opening. Consider wind conditions during work, as dust can spread far.

Checklist for successful chipping

Preparations speed up work and prevent equipment damage.

Work Safety

  • Do not go in front of, behind, or between the chipper and the pile.
  • Maintain several tens of meters of safety distance due to possible flying materials.
  • Inform the driver of all changes at the work site.
  • Prevent access to the chipping area by children and pets or farm animals.

Chipping Material

  • The chipper is intended for clean wood chipping: thinning and full trees, forest residue, clearing pieces, and other clean wood material.
  • Ensure the selected screen size suits your heating boiler.
  • Dry material produces dust – consider wind direction and protect the environment.

Chipping Location

  • Chipping can be done into storage or, for example, a tractor trailer.
  • Ensure no power lines pass through the area – the chipper needs 7–8 m of free space upward as well.
  • The ground must withstand the approximately 20-ton chipper.
  • Chip storage must have approximately 0.5 m exhaust air opening.
  • Chip tube head height is adjustable between 2.0–5.5 m; direction can be adjusted 180° horizontally.
  • The chipper's average hourly output is over 100 m³ – ensure transport capacity.
  • It's advisable to place base logs at least 20 cm thick at the bottom of the pile in the driving direction to improve drying and prevent soil from entering the machine.
  • THE PILE MUST NOT CONTAIN IMPURITIES SUCH AS STONES OR METAL. The customer is liable for compensation in cases where the chipper is damaged due to significant impurities.

The following materials are not suitable for our chipper:

  • Dirty, sandy, or stony wood material
  • Construction waste
  • Roots and mineral soil stumps
  • Trailer upright posts or other loose objects

Note: Impurities – especially iron – cause major damage to the chipper. Costs arising from them will be charged to the customer.
